1960's Chalet Bungalow Refurbishment & Extension, Areley Kings, Stourport

The client brief was to refurbish and extend the existing chalet style bungalow in Stourport. The property had not been upgraded for a long time, even having the original 50 year old kitchen. Although there were no notable features, the owners wanted to retain the original 'feel' to the house whilst updating it and improving the appearance externally.

The chosen proposal involved modifying the first floor to provide two bedrooms for the owners young family, which was accessed from a new feature staircase and bridge link. Opening up the landing flooded the ground floor hallway with light, creating an inviting reception space. To the front, the existing window to the old front bedroom was replaced with french doors and became a family room with direct access out for the children to enjoy the large front garden. A new lobby was constructed to the front, and full height glazed corner bay created in the living room. This included a deep flat roof over, giving the feeling of a traditional verandah. xisting walls, floors and roofs were all upgraded above and beyond the requirements of building control and a new A rated condensing boiler fitted.

The end result was a warm and inviting family home that was full of character.
