New Dwelling, Worcester
BIG.SMALL.SPACE were instructed by the clients to gain planning approval for a new dwelling to the front garden of their home in Worcester.
The site was unusual in that all of the existing amenity space was to the front of the property, that did not sit within and defined run of dwellings or have a clear building line. Following early discussions with the planning department where we met resistance we went ahead with the planning application as we were confident our design had addressed all of the planning issues raised. Despite a refusal initially we successfully won the appeal.
The new dwelling takes advantage of the site constraints and has been designed to suit the clients needs. A double height entrance hall and glazed screen lead through to the open plan living space to the rear. To the first floor are two en-suite bedrooms. The house was designed as a timber frame initially to provide maximum insulation values. Solar panels linked to underfloor heating provide further low running cost benefits to heating the space.
